Why custom formats usually fail in manufacturing
A roof with dormers, skylight strips and angled edges can only be covered with standard modules up to a point. The rest stays empty – not because it is technically impossible, but because no one wants to manufacture the right module in the required quantity. Small batch sizes are a disruption for large module factories.
The result is planning that follows the available module instead of the building. On existing buildings with irregular geometry, this costs noticeable area and therefore yield.
